Yaesu FT-70DR Quick Reference: WIRES-X, YSF, and US Hemet Hangout

This quick reference is for using the Yaesu FT-70DR with LDARC digital resources. It separates native Yaesu WIRES-X from YSF reflector operation through Pi-Star or WPSD.

Before You Start

• For US Hemet Hangout on a hotspot, use YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
• For the XLX side, use XLX618 Module H.
• For ordinary open C4FM use, set DG-ID TX/RX to 00.
• The FT-70DR does not support the richer WIRES-X message/image/audio-message functions found on larger radios.

Path A: Native Yaesu WIRES-X

Use this path with a true Yaesu WIRES-X node or a repeater that supports native WIRES-X control.

1. Tune the radio to the C4FM WIRES-X node or repeater frequency.
2. Set the radio for DN or AMS as appropriate.
3. Set normal DG-ID TX/RX to the node requirement, usually 00.
4. Set W-DGID to AUTO unless the node specifies DGID01-DGID99.
5. Activate WIRES-X by pressing [F], then [AMS].
6. Use the displayed node/room screens to connect, or use saved memories if already stored.
7. Disconnect from a room/node with a long press of [BAND]. Exit WIRES-X with a long press of [MODE].

Path B: YSF Reflector Through Pi-Star or WPSD

Use this path for a personal hotspot. The hotspot is selecting a YSF reflector; it is not connecting the radio directly to the Yaesu WIRES-X network.

1. Open the Pi-Star or WPSD dashboard.
2. Enable YSF/C4FM service.
3. Select YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
4. Program the FT-70DR to the hotspot simplex frequency.
5. Use C4FM DN or AMS, depending on how your radio names the mode.
6. Keep DG-ID TX/RX at 00 unless the hotspot is intentionally configured otherwise.
7. If the radio can steer the hotspot, press [F], then [AMS]; search for YSF59073 or US HEMET HANGOUT. If that does not work, use the hotspot dashboard.

DG-ID Quick Reference

• Normal DG-ID TX/RX 00: open C4FM operation and the safest default.
• Normal DG-ID 01-99: use only when the repeater, node, event, or hotspot requires a matching value.
• WIRES-X DG-ID AUTO: normal native WIRES-X setting for open DG-ID 00 nodes.
• Set Mode 63 W-DGID on USA radios, 62 W-DGID on some other versions: use this only for the WIRES-X node access setting, not as a substitute for the normal voice DG-ID.

LDARC Repeater, Hotspot, and Room Information

Use these LDARC-specific settings when programming the radio or setting up a hotspot for the club digital system.

Program the LDARC Club Repeater

• For analog FM, program 145.420 MHz, negative offset, and PL 88.5 Hz.
• For C4FM, use the same repeater frequency pair and use DN or AMS. Do not use VW when you expect traffic to pass through linked systems.
• From another native WIRES-X repeater or node, search for or direct-connect to LDARC / room 62917 to reach the club repeater room when it is available.

Access Through a Hotspot

• YSF / C4FM hotspot path: select YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT. In many Pi-Star/WPSD lists this may appear as YSF59073 – US-HEMET HANGOUT or simply 59073.
• XLX path: select XLX618 Module H. Module H is the Hemet Hangout module. In WPSD this is selected directly as XLX618 and Module H.
• Bridge note: LDARC WIRES-X room 62917, YSF-59073 US Hemet Hangout, and XLX618 Module H are part of the Hemet-area linked digital system when the bridge is active.

Using Another WIRES-X Repeater

1. Connect your radio to the local WIRES-X-capable repeater or node.
2. Open the radio’s WIRES-X function.
3. Use search/direct entry, history, or category list to find LDARC or room 62917.
4. Connect to the room, listen first, then identify normally.
5. Disconnect when finished so the local repeater is not left tied to the room unexpectedly.

Troubleshooting

• The WIRES-X control does not work with my hotspot: use the Pi-Star or WPSD dashboard. Hotspots use YSF reflector control, not full native WIRES-X.
• I cannot reach US Hemet Hangout: confirm YSF/C4FM is enabled and the reflector is YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
• The repeater ignores WIRES-X commands: confirm the repeater supports native WIRES-X and confirm its DG-ID requirement.
