Save the LDARC Club Repeater to Memory
Program two memories for the club repeater so analog FM and C4FM are easy to select later.
- LDARC FM: receive 145.420 MHz, transmit 144.820 MHz, negative offset 0.600 MHz, tone encode 88.5 Hz.
- LDARC C4FM: receive 145.420 MHz, negative offset 0.600 MHz, no analog tone, digital voice in DN or AMS.
1. Program the analog FM repeater memory
- Press V/M until the radio is in VFO mode.
- Enter 145.420 MHz.
- Set the operating mode to FM.
- Press and hold F MENU, open CONFIG, set 15 RPT SHIFT to -RPT, and set 16 RPT SHIFT FREQ to 0.600 MHz.
- Open the tone settings and set SQTYP to TONE, then set CODE to 88.5 Hz.
- Use REV to confirm the transmit frequency shows 144.820 MHz, then turn reverse off.
- Press and hold V/M, select an empty memory channel, and save it as LDARC FM.
2. Program the C4FM memory
- Return to VFO mode and enter 145.420 MHz.
- Keep the repeater shift at -RPT with a 0.600 MHz offset.
- Turn the analog tone off for this digital memory.
- Select DN or AMS.
- Save the channel to a second empty memory and name it LDARC C4FM.
Final check
After saving both memories, switch to each memory and verify the display, mode, offset, and tone settings before transmitting.
This guide is for LDARC members using a Yaesu FT-5DR with Yaesu System Fusion, native WIRES-X repeaters or nodes, and YSF reflectors through Pi-Star or WPSD hotspots. The main destination covered here is US Hemet Hangout, displayed on hotspots as YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.

The Important Distinction
Yaesu System Fusion is the C4FM digital voice system used by the FT-5DR. WIRES-X is Yaesu’s Internet linking system for true WIRES-X nodes and rooms. YSF reflectors are commonly used by Pi-Star and WPSD hotspots and are not the same network as Yaesu WIRES-X.
This matters because the FT-5DR has a WIRES-X control screen, but a personal hotspot may only interpret some of those controls as YSF reflector steering. On a hotspot, the goal is usually to select the correct YSF reflector. For LDARC, that reflector is YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
Prepare the FT-5DR
- Use the A-band for WIRES-X related operation.
- Select the repeater, node, or hotspot frequency.
- Use C4FM DN for a known digital path, or AMS if you intentionally want the radio to adapt between analog and digital.
- Confirm the transmit power is appropriate. For a nearby hotspot, low power is usually enough. For a repeater, use the power level needed for a reliable signal.
- Set DG-ID TX and DG-ID RX to 00 unless you have specific instructions to use another value.
Set 1: Yaesu System Fusion / Native WIRES-X Instructions
Use this set when the access point is a real Yaesu WIRES-X node or repeater. In this mode, the FT-5DR is using Yaesu’s native WIRES-X signaling to find and connect to rooms or nodes.
Connect to the Local Node or Repeater
- Tune the A-band to the local WIRES-X node or repeater frequency.
- Make sure the radio is in C4FM DN or AMS.
- If the node uses a specific DG-ID, set the radio’s normal DG-ID TX/RX to match. If not, use 00.
- Press and hold F MENU, touch WIRES-X, then check 5 DG-ID.
- Use AUTO for open nodes. Use 01-99 only when the node owner or repeater instructions specify a matching WIRES-X DG-ID.
- Press PTT to save and return to the frequency screen.
- Press and hold GM/X. The radio will attempt to connect to the local WIRES-X node.
Steer the Native WIRES-X Connection
- After the local node is found, touch SEARCH & DIRECT.
- Choose from the available room/node list, search by name, select a recent destination, or use a saved category.
- Touch the desired room or node, or rotate the DIAL to highlight it and press PTT.
- Once connected, listen before transmitting.
- To disconnect from the remote room/node, press and hold BAND.
- To exit WIRES-X operation, press and hold GM/X.
Native WIRES-X DG-ID Notes
- The FT-5DR has a WIRES-X DG-ID setting in the WIRES-X setup menu.
- AUTO is the normal setting for open nodes using DG-ID 00.
- Values 01-99 restrict connection to matching nodes. Use those only when the repeater or node instructions say to.
Set 2: YSF Reflector Instructions for Pi-Star or WPSD
Use this set when your FT-5DR talks to a personal hotspot. In this case, the hotspot is the gateway. The hotspot links to the YSF reflector, and the radio talks locally to the hotspot.
Configure the Hotspot
- Open the Pi-Star or WPSD dashboard.
- Enable YSF/C4FM service.
- Set the YSF reflector to YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
- Confirm the hotspot transmit/receive frequency.
- Apply changes and let the hotspot restart the service if needed.
Configure the FT-5DR for the Hotspot
- Program a memory channel for the hotspot simplex frequency.
- Use C4FM DN or AMS.
- Set DG-ID TX and DG-ID RX to 00 unless your hotspot configuration intentionally uses another value.
- Use low power if the hotspot is nearby.
- Transmit briefly and confirm the dashboard shows your callsign or activity.
Steer the Hotspot with the FT-5DR
Many MMDVM-based hotspots can respond to WIRES-X style control from the radio. This is useful, but it is still YSF reflector control, not full native Yaesu WIRES-X.
- With the radio on the hotspot channel, press and hold GM/X.
- If the hotspot supports the command, a reflector/control screen may appear.
- Use search/direct entry to look for YSF59073 or US HEMET HANGOUT.
- Select the reflector and wait for the hotspot to link.
- If the radio does not display a useful list, use the Pi-Star or WPSD dashboard instead.
What Not to Expect from a Hotspot
- Do not expect a Pi-Star/WPSD hotspot to behave exactly like a Yaesu WIRES-X node.
- Do not expect every Yaesu room search or category feature to work through a hotspot.
- Do not use the hotspot’s YSF reflector list to connect directly to a Yaesu WIRES-X room unless the service specifically provides a bridge.
DG-ID Details
Normal Voice DG-ID
DG-ID can be used like a digital squelch/group filter. For ordinary open C4FM work, use TX 00 and RX 00. This keeps the radio open to the usual traffic path and avoids accidentally filtering out the stations you want to hear.
WIRES-X DG-ID
The WIRES-X setup menu also has a DG-ID item. Use AUTO unless the local WIRES-X node or repeater requires a numbered DG-ID. If a node uses a specific value, set the FT-5DR to the same value before attempting WIRES-X access.
Hotspot DG-ID
For Pi-Star/WPSD use, leave DG-ID at 00 unless the hotspot owner has intentionally configured a different value. If the hotspot hears the radio but passes no audio, mismatched DG-ID settings are one thing to check.
VFO and Memory (V/M)
VFO is the working area for entering a frequency and changing its settings. Memory recalls a saved channel exactly as it was stored. Because this is a VHF/UHF C4FM radio, its menus focus on repeater, memory, scan, digital voice, and radio-display settings.
- Select VFO before creating a new channel.
- Enter the frequency, mode, repeater shift, tone, and any digital setting.
- Use the radio’s memory-write command to select an empty or replacement memory channel, then save it with a useful label.
- Select V/M or the radio’s Memory screen to recall that channel later. Change a memory only when you intend to change the saved setup; use VFO for temporary tuning.
Menu Options
The menu holds the settings that remain in effect after you leave the screen. Open the menu only when you want to change radio behavior, then save or exit normally. Menu labels can vary with firmware; the radio’s official manual is the complete version-specific list.

For LDARC use, the menu settings that matter most are: negative repeater shift, PL 88.5 Hz for analog FM, DN or AMS for C4FM, normal DG-ID 00 for open C4FM, and native WIRES-X room 62917.
Operating Practice
- Listen first. Digital links can already have a conversation in progress.
- Leave a little extra pause between transmissions so linked systems can reset.
- Identify normally with your callsign.
- When using a hotspot, confirm the dashboard destination before calling.
- When using a repeater, follow the repeater owner’s WIRES-X and DG-ID instructions.
LDARC Repeater, Hotspot, and Room Information
Use these LDARC-specific settings when programming the radio or setting up a hotspot for the club digital system.

- For analog FM, program 145.420 MHz, negative offset, and PL 88.5 Hz.
- For C4FM, use the same repeater frequency pair and use DN or AMS. Do not use VW when you expect traffic to pass through linked systems.
- From another native WIRES-X repeater or node, search for or direct-connect to LDARC / room 62917 to reach the club repeater room when it is available.
Access Through a Hotspot
- YSF / C4FM hotspot path: select YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT. In many Pi-Star/WPSD lists this may appear as YSF59073 – US-HEMET HANGOUT or simply 59073.
- XLX path: select XLX618 Module H. Module H is the Hemet Hangout module. In WPSD this is selected directly as XLX618 and Module H.
- Bridge note: LDARC WIRES-X room 62917, YSF-59073 US Hemet Hangout, and XLX618 Module H are part of the Hemet-area linked digital system when the bridge is active.
Using Another WIRES-X Repeater
- Connect your radio to the local WIRES-X-capable repeater or node.
- Open the radio’s WIRES-X function.
- Use search/direct entry, history, or category list to find LDARC or room 62917.
- Connect to the room, listen first, then identify normally.
- Disconnect when finished so the local repeater is not left tied to the room unexpectedly.

Troubleshooting
The FT-5DR WIRES-X button does not work with my hotspot
Use the hotspot dashboard. Some hotspot configurations support WIRES-X style control, but they are still selecting YSF reflectors, not operating as native Yaesu WIRES-X nodes.
I cannot connect to US Hemet Hangout
- Confirm the hotspot is in YSF/C4FM mode.
- Confirm the selected reflector is YSF-59073 – US HEMET HANGOUT.
- Confirm the radio and hotspot are on the same simplex frequency.
- Confirm DG-ID TX/RX are 00 unless a different value is intentional.
I can key the hotspot, but nobody hears me
- Check that the dashboard is actually linked to the intended reflector.
- Check that your callsign is configured in the hotspot.
- Use DN mode rather than a mode the hotspot is not expecting.
- Reduce power if the radio is overdriving a nearby hotspot.
The repeater does not respond to WIRES-X commands
- Confirm the repeater supports native WIRES-X access.
- Confirm you are on the A-band.
- Confirm the repeater’s DG-ID requirement.
- Try again when the repeater is idle.
