Using EchoLink with LDARC

EchoLink lets licensed Amateur Radio operators connect over the Internet to other EchoLink stations, links, and repeaters. For LDARC, connect to N7OD-R or node 3341. LDARC EchoLink access is listed as 06:00 to 23:00.

When you use EchoLink from a phone, computer, or browser, you are connecting through the EchoLink network. You are not making a local RF connection from your location. EchoLink is useful for LDARC net check-ins and local information when you are away from RF range.

For nets, connect a few minutes early so you can hear the net from the start. Once the net has begun, the node may already be busy, and you may not be able to tell when there is a good opening to connect.

If EchoLink Says Node Busy

A busy message does not mean Net Control is blocking your connection. LDARC does everything it can to give EchoLink stations an opportunity to connect and check in.

The challenge is that, until your EchoLink connection succeeds, you cannot hear the net traffic and Net Control cannot hear you. Even if Net Control leaves a long pause for EchoLink stations, you may have no way of knowing that pause is happening if you are not already connected.

If you see a busy message after the net has started, wait before trying again. The best way to participate is to connect before the net begins, listen, and be ready when Net Control calls for EchoLink check-ins.

Common Messages

  • Access denied: the station you are calling is refusing the connection by its own rules. It usually is not personal.
  • Timed out: the station may have gone offline, may already be connected, or there may be a network/firewall issue.
  • No audio: check your microphone, speaker, and audio settings. Try *ECHOTEST* first to hear your own transmitted audio played back.

Basic EchoLink Courtesy

  • Listen first after connecting.
  • Identify with your callsign before transmitting.
  • Leave a short pause between transmissions.
  • During a net, wait for Net Control to call for EchoLink check-ins.
  • Keep transmissions short, especially during nets and emergency operations.
  • Disconnect when you are finished.
