WPSD XLX618 and US Hemet Hangout Setup Guide

Updated: July 16, 2026

This guide walks through configuring a WPSD hotspot from the web dashboard so it can:

  • Join your local Wi-Fi network.
  • Connect directly to the XLX618 reflector on DMR, Module H.
  • Use Yaesu System Fusion on the US Hemet Hangout YSF reflector, YSF-59073.

Before You Start

Have these ready:

  • Your Wi-Fi network name.
  • Your amateur radio callsign.
  • Your DMR ID from RadioID.net.
  • The hotspot transmit/receive frequency you plan to use.
  • Your hotspot modem type, if you know it.
  • A Fusion/C4FM radio channel for the hotspot frequency, if using YSF.

This guide does not use a DMR talkgroup for XLX618. The connection is made in WPSD by selecting the XLX reflector and module directly in the dashboard.

Part 1: Connect WPSD to Wi-Fi

Option A: Wi-Fi Was Already Entered During Imaging

  1. Power on the hotspot.
  2. Wait about five minutes for the hotspot to boot.
  3. On a computer or phone connected to the same network, open:

http://wpsd.local

  1. If that does not work, try the hostname used by your image or device, such as:

http://zumspot.localhttp://skybridge.localhttp://dvmega-cast.local

  1. Log in when prompted, then continue to Part 2.

Option B: Wi-Fi Was Not Entered During Imaging

  1. Power on the hotspot.
  2. Wait about five minutes.
  3. On your computer or phone, open the Wi-Fi network list.
  4. Connect to the setup network named:

WPSD-Setup

  1. Open a web browser and go to:

http://wpsd.local

  1. Scroll to Wireless Configuration.
  2. Choose Configure WiFi.
  3. Either scan for your Wi-Fi network or choose Add New WiFi Network.
  4. Select or enter your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Save/connect the new Wi-Fi profile.
  6. Wait a few minutes for WPSD to leave setup mode and join your home network.
  7. Reconnect your computer or phone to your normal Wi-Fi network.
  8. Open:

http://wpsd.local

  1. Log in when prompted.

Part 2: Basic WPSD Configuration

  1. In the WPSD dashboard, open:

Admin -> Configuration

  1. In General Configuration, enter or confirm:

  1. If WPSD prompts you to select a modem, choose the correct modem type for your hotspot board.
  2. Click Apply Changes.
  3. Wait for WPSD to restart services and reload the dashboard.

Important: every time you change settings on the Configuration page, click Apply Changes. Otherwise the setting may appear on screen but not actually be active.

Part 3: Enable YSF for US Hemet Hangout YSF-59073

YSF-59073 is listed as:

Item Value

  2. Leave FCS Network enabled unless you have a specific reason to change it.
  3. Click Apply Changes.
  4. Wait for WPSD to restart services.
  5. Return to the dashboard.
  6. Confirm YSF is green in Mode Status.
  7. Confirm YSF Net is green in Network Status.
  8. Confirm YSF Status shows US HEMET HANGOUT or YSF-59073.

Using US Hemet Hangout From a Fusion Radio

  1. Select the hotspot frequency on your Fusion radio.
  2. Use DN mode, not VW mode, when working linked digital systems.
  3. Key briefly and watch the WPSD dashboard for activity.
  4. Make a short test call:

After this is set, the hotspot should come up connected to XLX618 Module H from the dashboard configuration. Do not create a separate DMR talkgroup workflow for this reflector.

Part 5: What US Hemet Hangout Is

XLX618 and XLX318 are multimode Hemet-area reflectors. XLX618 serves US Hemet Hangout on Module H, and YSF-59073 is the US Hemet Hangout YSF reflector associated with XLX618.

For DMR users:

  • In WPSD, select XLX618.
  • In WPSD, select Module H.
  • Do not use a separate DMR talkgroup for US Hemet Hangout.

For Fusion users:

  • Use YSF-59073 US HEMET HANGOUT.
  • Use DN mode.

DMR and C4FM users can be heard across the linked XLX/YSF system when the reflector/module bridging is active.

Troubleshooting

I Cannot Reach the Dashboard

  • Wait a full five minutes after power-up.
  • Try http://wpsd.local.

  • If Wi-Fi was never configured, look for the WPSD-Setup Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi Does Not Connect

  • Confirm the hotspot is close enough to the router.

  • Avoid hidden SSIDs during first setup if possible.

DMR Shows Green but XLX Does Not Work

  • Confirm DMR Mode is enabled.
  • Confirm XLX Network / XLX Master is enabled.
  • Confirm XLX Master is XLX618.
  • Confirm Startup Module is H.
